Buying an AS-IS knife: read the condition first

Understand CCC's AS-IS knife listings, defect photographs, reference prices and why some pieces are intended primarily for display.

A lower price needs a closer look

An AS-IS listing identifies a particular condition issue. The reduced asking price does not mean the defect has been repaired or that the knife is suitable for every use. Read the individual listing before deciding whether the piece fits your purpose.

Review the evidence

  • Read the complete defect description, not just the title or markdown.
  • Look at the close-up photographs and ask about anything you cannot see clearly.
  • Distinguish a cosmetic issue from an edge, handle or structural concern.
  • If the listing recommends display use, do not treat the knife as ready for normal cutting work.

Understand the price comparison

A regular-reference or comparable-undamaged price provides context for the markdown. Check whether that reference is identified as an estimate; it is not necessarily a previous CCC selling price. The current asking price and condition of the actual item are what you are evaluating.

Ask before buying

We disclose identified issues so a customer can make an informed choice. AS-IS language does not replace the specific description, and this guide does not create a new warranty or change CCC's posted return terms. Contact CCC before purchase if condition, accessories or intended use is unclear.
